David Williamson is without a doubt one of the greatest magicians in the world. His technical ability is incredible but it is his fearless comedy that sets him apart from the crowd. It was interesting for me then to hear that he was essentially a shy, self confessed “magic geek” when he started out.

So many of my generation of magicians cite David as one of their major influences and he continues to inspire, amaze and occasionally shock the magic world.

In this interview which lasts 50 minutes David talks about magic, comedy and taking risks. (There was a slight delay problem in places.)

Andrew O’Connor has been the driving force behind the new wave of magic on television. Objective Productions, the company he set up with Michael Vine “discovered” Derren Brown and created the TV specials and live theatre shows which propelled Mr Brown into the pubic domain. He also co-created “Peep Show” and wrote and directed the feature film “Magicians”, (which if you don’t blink you can see me in!), along with producing many other successful non-magic TV shows.

A magician, actor and TV presenter himself Andrew achieved the business dream by building and eventually selling Objective allowing him to pursue his passion for filmmaking. He now lives with his family in L.A.

In this interview which lasts 52 minutes Andrew talks about how he did it, the people he met along the way and how to get on TV!

Mat Ricardo Interview

Mat Ricardo is not a magician but his signature trick is oh so magical! He’s the guy who does the tablecloth stunt in reverse! I saw Mat doing this for many years in Covent Garden where he was one of the “established acts.” He knew how to work the streets but it was clear that he was refining an act that would mean his future was in cabaret and not on the cobbles.

In this interview which lasts 40 minutes Mat talks about his act, his own personal journey and of course the tablecloth.

There’s not a great deal I can say about David Berglas that you don’t already know, he is after all a legend in magic.

I tried to avoid talking about David’s start in magic in too much detail and at David’s request, as he felt this is ground that has already been covered. I hope you enjoy the interview which lasts 43 minutes. I have also included some bonus footage which is David describing a Trade Show effect he performed and demonstrates the lengths he would go to to achieve the desired result.

He is a walking contradiction, with his appearance and his manner seemingly being at polar opposites and so this for me was a fascinating interview.
