Magician to Magician: Michael Vincent Interview #1

Michael is without a doubt one of the finest sleight of hand magicians in the world. His commitment to the art of magic and his pursuit of excellence are incredible as are the results they produce.

This is Part 1 of a two part interview – (I got a bit carried away and Michael was gracious enough to carry on the conversation).

Michael Vincent Interview #1MP3

Michael has established himself not only as a great magician but also as a great teacher and this I think is evident in this interview. He has made the distinction between “doing magic” and “creating experiences” focusing on the affect his performance has not just the effects in it.

The Michael Vincent Secrets #1:

  • Turn adversity into opportunity.
  • Have a clear vision of what you want to achieve.
  • Be incredibly selective about the material you spend time on.
  • It’s not about you.

So I’ve done my bit now all you have to do is:

  • Leave your comments and feedback in the comments section.  What did you get from the interview?
  • If you like what I’m trying to do with this site then spread the word on Twitter, Facebook, (hit the LIKE button), or anywhere you can.
  • Subscribe to the site via the subscription box on the home page.  The bigger the crowd the more likely people will say yes to being interviewed.
  • Now you can subscribe to the audio version of the interviews on iTunes.

  1. Paul Gordon says:

Great interview. Great thoughts and good concept. Shame about video quality, though. Either way, congrats to Peter & Michael.

    • Thanks Paul. Unfortunately the video quality is always going to vary depending on the equipment that the interviewee has and the lighting they have in-situ.
Skype makes it all possible but there are always compromises.

  2. Great interview, I genuinely could listen to you both for ages.. Michael has a deep passion that SO many could do with listening to. For me Magic and/or Mind Reading is about a moment that becomes a life long memory, something that ignites wonder, a great feeling inside that we as magicians all experienced which ultimately led us to our wonderful careers. Excellent work Peter, great interview Michael.

    • Thank you Marc. I hope people do at least think a little more about their magic careers and performance based on this and the other interviews. The point isn’t just to make it better for audiences but for the performers as well.

  3. Philip Smith says:

    Inspirational.

A fantastic interview that causes me to ask more questions about my magic than it answered.

Why don’t more conventions and lectures address these types of issues?

Performing, entertaining, but most importantly, connecting is what it’s all about.

Really looking forward to Part 2.

    • I’m really pleased you got something from this Philip and I know you’ll enjoy part 2 just as much. As for addressing the issues in a live teaching environment – watch this space…..

  4. Alan Hudson says:

Great stuff. Keep it up. Much prefer the new format of hearing you talk Pete. It makes the interviewee seem less egotistical as in some of the previous ones

  5. Mike Vincent says:

Thank you gentlemen for your inspired feedback.

The conversation with Pete was just great.

I love this quality of conversation, it presents an opportunity to share a point of view which expands what’s possible.

As subjective as my point of view is, I hope it opens up a new pathway for new thoughts and intellectual effort so that all magicians can now engage in a level of conversation about magic which can leave the craft better than we found it.

    Thank you

    Michael Vincent

  6. kasrani says:

  7. Alex Moffat says:

Excellent, people pay to hear this sort of quality discussion and yet it’s free.

I listened to this while on the way to work, eventually crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge as the discussion came to an end. Inspiring scenery and an inspiring interview.

    Cheers

    Alex

    • Hi Alex
Thanks for the positive feedback. I’m going to be lecturing in Sydney this September so if you’re around I’ll buy you a beer!

      • Alex Moffat says:

        Hi Peter,

Yes at Sean Taylor’s convention, I look forward to meeting you and I’ll hold you to that beer.

        Alex
